Games are played every
Wednesday night from 8:30pm until 11:30pm, and 6-7 teams compete
each season. Each player is rated according to skills and
abilities, and placed on teams by the league commissioner and team
captains. This ensures that all of the teams in the SCNHL have a
level playing field on which to compete.
The
Space City Novice Hockey League was founded in 2007, and is an easygoing
adult hockey league that welcomes all
levels of novice and beginner players.
Each season, two awards are given - The Di Mari Cup, the
league's championship trophy on which each season's
winning team is listed, and the new QuinnVP award, for
the most valuable player as selected by the winning team
each season. The Di Mari Cup was named for the late John
Di Mari. John was a cancer research scientist at the
University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston and a
dedicated goalie for the SCHNL league until his passing
in 2008. The QuinnVP award is named for Chris Quinn,
Commissioner of the league and player whose passion for
the league keeps
it going through thick and thin for many seasons.
So, whether
you have never skated and want to try hockey, or have
let your skates rust over the decade, the Space City
Novice Hockey League is the place for you to play
friendly and competitive ice hockey.
